No Surprises Act

Your Good Faith Estimate.

You have the right to know what your care will cost before it begins. Here’s what that means, in plain language.

Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care will cost. The estimate is not a contract and does not obligate you to receive services. If you are billed for more than $400 over your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Asking for or receiving a Good Faith Estimate will never affect the care you receive.

What you’re entitled to

Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers — including therapists — must give clients who don’t use insurance, or who choose not to, a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs for services. You can ask for one before scheduling, and we’ll provide one in writing at least one business day before your first appointment.

An estimate, not a contract

A Good Faith Estimate shows the costs we reasonably expect. It is not a bill and not a contract. It does not obligate you to receive any service, and you can stop care at any time.

Illustrative session fees

  • Individual Therapy: $150–225 per session. One-on-one, 50 minutes.
  • Couples Therapy: $175–275 per session. For the two of you, 60–80 minutes.
  • Sliding Scale: $80–130 per session. Reduced-fee, by need.

Your actual estimate is personalized to the services you and your therapist expect, including how frequently you plan to meet.

If your bill is higher than your estimate

If you’re billed for at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill through the federal patient–provider dispute resolution process. You generally have 120 days from the date of the bill to start a dispute.

It will never affect your care

Asking for or receiving a Good Faith Estimate will never change the care you receive, and we’ll always be glad to walk through it with you.
